For a city reputed for diagonal, umbrella–phobic rain and generalised grey bleakness, Manchester has nurtured many a fine green park ready for those blessed sunny days. Take your gran to Heaton Park for cream tea in the mansion house, or to National Trust–owned Tatton Park to see other old deers. Fletcher Moss, on the River Mersey banks in Didsbury, has a botanical flair; while Chorlton Water Park's wild beauty attracts from far and wide.
