Cycle Routes
Cycling in Manchester is an adrenaline junkie's paradise. A plethora of pavement–hoppers imitating Bart Simpson's skateboard escapades is testimony that most would rather dodge pedestrians and prams than double–deckers and trams. Lock–up stands are plentiful everywhere and cycle lanes sandwich the main routes into the centre. Once there, you either need Tour de France confidence or firm knowledge of the back alleys. On Oxford Road, sharing the bus lane is the perfect challenge for thrill–seekers. Try overtaking at bus stops before the driver pulls out again. Eek. Rusholme's traffic system matches its chaotic decor; while the Fallowfield Loop is a safe and pleasant ex–railtrack leading to Chorlton.
