Olive Deli: city secret
A hidden gem amongst the Manchester eateries, the Olive Deli prides itself on having 'all things for all people'. Serving an enormous range of food from a tubs of olives and chargrilled vegetables to toasted paninis to the world's strongest vodka, there really is something for everyone.
If you stop by during lunchtime, don't expect to be alone as it is the busiest time of day. Try a mature cheddar and roast ham panini or be more adventurous and order the hand made basil pesto, Italian mozzarella and sun blushed tomato sandwich on ciabatta bread. All meat is hand-sliced in the deli and all sandwiches are made on the premises - they even make their own fillings. Although, they do bring in veggie snacks, Fair Trade and other organic options from outside. Located at the edge of the gay village and also near to the university, the Deli strives to cater to the diverse needs of their customers.
But don't leave without an appropriate beverage; the Olive Deli boasts an extensive supply of wine and spirits as well as the largest stock of vodka in Manchester (40 different kinds!). They also feature an array of champagnes for special occasions and even have bottles of Cristal available for the ballers with cash to spend. For a healthy, non-alcoholic option, they offer freshly squeezed orange juice and smoothies.
With the inviting atmosphere that is more like a New York deli than a Manchester café, you may want to sit down and enjoy your coffee, snack or nibbles at the counter while reading a complimentary newspaper (and you won't get charged extra for staying and eating).
In addition to their food and drink selection, the Deli also features a wide range of groceries, which they aim to stock with both essentials and 'unusual' brands imported from outside England and other more specialty
items. Also popular are the cheeky greeting cards imported from New York, perfect for a last-minute birthday message.
And if you do a double take of the guy in the queue, you're probably just gawking at a star of Coronation Street, as the cast are regulars at the Deli. The Cutting It gang also make a point to stop by when they are filming.
Whether you're hungry for a melty panini or a slice of American Oreo cookie cake, Olive Deli is guaranteed to satisfy your craving and tempt you with others. With such a vast selection, you'd be crazy not to try new things.
